I don't like the look of the windshield much either butI would never go on a long trip without it.

Vinny-
Pretty nice look'in scoot.
Recently I put on a quick-detatch on mine(the kind that clamps on the forks). I like it for a) cant even tell it was there when you pop it off b) cold spring/fall air c) highway miles(though I try to avoid)
One note of caution..... I find myself hauling a$$ with it on. The "wind-in-the-face-speedo" gets all discombobulated with it on.

Good luck and have fun.

Don't like windshields... never have... took the one off my old ElectraGlide...

I change my oil and filter every 2500 miles... Tranny every 5 K...

Both brakes... sometimes a little more of one or the other depending on the situation...

Here goes. The windshield DOES make a difference. Now that I have my RKC, won't ride without one, BUT, I did not put one on my 883R because if it were meant to have one, it would have come with one. Know what I mean, windshields just ruin the raw Sportster look (my .02).

Oil change every 5K miles is the standard for everything these days, cycles, trucks and cars. Do it sooner as you think you need to, no big deal.

Highway pegs are great when the surrounding circumstances dictate using them! In traffic or "iffy" areas of travel, feet belong on the mid pegs. If your really into the forward "feel", you might want to install forward controls, then your at the brake pedal always. Different spokes for different folks! Dave

About the front brakes. If you do not ballance between the front and rear brakes you WILL go down sooner than later. There is NO doubt.

About the windshield. I will always have one because: Riding home from work one evening in the painfully stinging rain, a truck in front of me picked up a dead rat with the rear tire and slung it into my chest at high speed. I very nearly went down from the force of the blow. The pain was awful and the stench overpowering. I was black and blue and had to toss my jacket after that.

Sooooooo.

I buy a new bike, and the windshield goes on immediately.

Aside from the dangers of not having one, you will find that pushing against a 70mph wind for any length of time is very tiring.
