Default Changing oil in a Sportster.........

a 2000 xl1200c to be exact (just got it). I know what my WG takes and it was all 20/50 Mobil 1 is what I used for all of it.
does the Sportster(mine) take different oils ?or is it like my WG everything was 20/50?

thanks in advance.

The sporty loves Formula + in the primary/trany combo. Great feel and shifts from 10F to 114F I have riden in.

If a motor oil is JASO MA2 it will be fine but I prefer oils specific to the application.

1 qt. of transmission oil, probably 2.5 qts. for the engine oil.

I get away with 2.7 in the engine and no puking out the breathers on my bike, just a little more oil for cooling.

But when I drain mine I do it after a 50 or more mile run the instant I get off the bike. For some reason mine wet sumps right about .2~ quarts after sitting 20 minutes, but never more than that. So I drain and remove filter as soon as I get off the bike. But wear gloves, it will be hot doing it that way!

I believe it's still 5,000 (or 2,500 in "severe" conditions)...I could be wrong, though...
