New game! Called "wtf is this I found in my primary!?"
89 sporty hugger with 1200 conversion. Took the primary cover off to investigate a rattle on downshifting and deceleration, found this. Looks to be surface ground like its important like a thrust washer, found it in two pieces.
Also, any suggestions on the rattle? My front drive gear was not loose, the chain tensioner looks almost like new and it wasn't loose. Or I should say I didn't dare go any tighter with it. The only play I found was a slight wobble in my clutch basket, the main bearing that the clutch hub ride inside the basket on.

I've read that the 4 speed clutch assembly does wobble a bit, how much is too much I have no idea. I've got a '91, so doubt my service manual would help id that washer.
Based on the diameter, maybe you can do a process of elimination and narrow it down.
Good luck, hope it's minor issue.

hahahahaha good call!
Went to the dealership, it's a shim/thrust washer that goes on the right side of the lower transmission shaft between the last gear and the transmission housing. Must have fallen off when someone else had it apart. I got a new one, came home and took my tranny out, only to find there was already a shim there! Well I felt the endplay of the shaft before removing the trans and it seemed pretty excessive, so I put this new one on, too. Put the trans back in, the shaft has much less endplay now. And now I screwed myself by taking the clutch apart to inspect it and I can't for the life of me get the spring washer compressed to get the snap ring back in it's groove. After an hour on my knees in the driveway, I got pissed and was ready to launch clutch parts into the road, so I called it quits. I'll take it in tomorrow and have them throw it together. Hopefully this was the chatter I was hearing, because if it isn't, I don't know what the hell else it could be.
