Default RE: Engine popping at around 4300rpm

I very seldom ever have to use the enricher **** to start it, unless it sets for a couple of weeks & it's cold out, then I can push it (the enricher ****), back in after 10-20 seconds. I'm usually in the 2000- 3000rpm range around town, & the only time I run it up to 4300 is when I get a chance to get it on the highway. Like I said before, once I clean it out a couple of times, I can run it up above 4300 with no popping at all. I did check the plugs, & they looked good,(a nice light brown color). Thanks guys for the help.
You are probably running too rich then. If it gets better after running it up to higher rpm, then you could be cleaning off the plugs then. Or it could be completely unrelated. Or it could be something else.

The first thing I would do is find out the size of the slow jet in the carb since it seems to happen at in city driving with light throttle. Once you find that out, we can move on to search for other causes.

1200c, actually it happens when I get on it pretty hard through the gears, & when it gets to right at 4200 to 4500 rpms is when it pops 3 or 4 times. I usually back it down to about 2500, then run it up again until it pops a few times. Usually by the 3rd time I do it, it will run about as high as my ***** will let it go, which is around 4800 to 5000,(3000 rpms is 60 mph). That's fast enough for this old fart. I'm afraid anything over 5000 rpms in 5th gear would give me permanent butt pucker.

In that case it may not be the jetting. Does it have an aftermarket ignition?

Has it always done this? Is this something that happened recently?

What kind of cam are you running. You might have more than you need for the street. Someone might have putsomething in that only works WFO. Pretty common with used bikes.

That wouldn't cause popping. If anything you would feel flat spots or poor performance on the bottom. In addition, a high performance cam would be pulling pretty good at 4300 rpm.

I took it out yesterday, & I could only get it to pop 2 times. I slowly ran it up in each gear. It didn't pop until I was in 4th gear at about 4600,then only popped about 3 times,(pop--pop pop).I went to 5th, slowly ran it up to 5ooo with no popping. I then backed it back down to 1st gear, & started over. This time it went to 5000 in each gear with no pop until 5th gear, then 1 slight pop. after that it ran perfect. I didn't get to ride it very long, but I kept the rpms up in the 3500-4000 range when I could just as an experimental deal. I'll take it out later today & see what it does.
The manifold, cams, ignition, air intake, wires, &pushrodsare screaming eagle.
