RE: Stupid Boot question
I wear nothing but boots, have for years (don't even own any 'normal' shoes), and probably the longest lasting and most comfort pair I have is the Redwing Worx #5585.
In fact I bought a couple extra pair for future use.
Since I starting wearing them a few years ago my regular "Harley" boots and "Engineer" boots have gone into retirement mode.
Oil/Slip Resistant Urethane ENDURANCE Arrowhead Sole
Full Grain Oil Tanned Leather
Goodyear Welt Construction
Removable PU Footbed
ANSI Z41 PT99 M I/75 C/75 EH
Slip Resistant
Electrical Hazard Resistant
Steel Toe

RE: Stupid Boot question
You don't have to get the HD boots. They are a rebranded aftermarket shoe anyway (Wolverine). Wear what is confortable for you but also consider safety. The tougher the boot, the longer they last sliding down the road before toes are introduced to asphalt. Steel toes aren't necessarily mandatory but they make cool sparks, or so I've heard. Also consider something with ankle support. I saw Sport bike guys hot rodding in Myrtle Beach during bike week wearing flip-flops. Nuts. No one wants to buy their bike wear for the least likely event to occur while riding but at the same time I think you would be foolish to not at least consider a few "what-ifs" when picking out the right gear; boots are no exception. You might never fall but won't you appreciate having all your pieces still attached if you do?
I wear my Danner Ft Lewis Godevils (Uncle Sam worn't let me wear the black ones for work anymore) or a pair of HD riding boots. You might catch me wearing the well-used desert jungles once in a while but rarely anymore.

RE: Stupid Boot question
Not all boots are good for riding. Some Dr. Martin boots (a friend told me about this) will hit the exhaust pipes when riding and melt to the pipe. Also some boots that are thick soled are hard to ride with because it's harder to get your foot under the shift peg. My favorite riding boots are my old pair of redwings that I've since had to replace.
