Default Question about buying HD parts online

I'm looking to buy the stage II 883-1200 conversion kit and my dealer is pricing it out for me. While I'm waiting, is there a dealer that sells such parts for a discount online? I'm wondering if I can get a good price and avoid sales tax.

I suspect the moco protects the dealers against this type of thing. If so, have you found dealers will negotiate on the price for expensive kits/ parts?

Thanks for the help.

The HD conversion kit is expensive and comes with new cylinders/piston, plus heads etc. If you would like a cheaper way of boosting performance consider a 1250cc conversion kit. It is designed to run with your stock 883 heads and hence is much cheaper.

There are various firms who make them, including Hammer, S&S and NRHS. For more details just enter '1250' into Search and stand well back! There are stacks of threads about them, including DIY with photos. Well worth considering IMHO.

^ what he said. 1250 kit for$700 is way better than a dealer upgrade for double that

I've accumulated some HD gift certificates that I plan to use towards the kit, so I pretty much need to stick with the SE stuff. Also, the stage II kit includes tuner and cams. The price is close to a wash if I add cams and tuner to a Hammer or NRHS kit. Right now my bike is bone stock.

Try these guys:
http://www.kutterharleyonline.com/

Most HD/SE parts are 20% off. Enter the part# and check price against standard HD pricing/ or your quote. No shipping if order is over $99. I've had very good luck with them.

Unless you plan on having the dealer do the rebuild instead of doing it yourself, I highly recommend NOT going with the Harley parts/kits.

You'll get a lot more bang for the buck and outstanding customer support from Hammer Performance, than you will a dealer.

I can't speak highly enough about their materials and workmanship, along with their support.

Opus X so you got "Harley gift certificates " for parts but you can't use them for labor at least not at my local dealer That limits your answers to what you can do I say spend those on something else & get the 1250 upgrade elsewhere

Cool 883/1200 conversion

i had a 1999 883 custom that i converted to 1200. at the time, buying new harley 1200 barrels were cheaper than the machine shop boring my 883 barrels. i used wisco pistons and was very happy. i reused the 883 heads! great performance and great fuel economy! good luck! cheers from montana

That's an alternative, the significance of using Wiseco pistons being they are designed for using with 883 heads, while the 1200 stock pistons are not suitable.
