The V&H slipons are almost as loud as straight pipes, where the difference in the db level is very insignificant. I went the V&H Straight Shot Slip Ons and I am quite happy. No need to rejet unless you plan on completing the stage 1 which includes a new air cleaner, and rejetting the carbs. That will howver give you about 12+ horsepower if you decide to complete the stage 1. I'd go for it.

You can't go wrong with the VH slip on mufflers and if they are too loud you can get the quite baffles for them. Putting high flow mufflers is only 1/3 of a stage 1 mod. I put VH short shots on this past weekend but it is really cold in my garage and did put the SE air filter kit and the jets yet hoping to do it this weekend but the new pipes sound nice. Removing the baffles is a waste of time IMO, I have heard sportsters that had seem removed and they don't sound as nice as the VH pipes. plus the stock mufflers are ugly and common and with the baffles out you are now running a muffler that was designed to have a baffle and now are not which can't help with performance. Plus you can put something new on for less than 300$.
