Exclamation 4 month old gas in tank. what to do?

Hi guys. I know it's a travesty that I haven't ridden my bike in at least 4 months (almost 5). But bought a home and fixing it up has been taking my time.

Took the battery out and recharged it (was at about 9.7 volts and that bike wouldn't start).

That said, my 2012 Iron has been sitting with about 3/4 tank of premium fuel. Can I add some stabilizer to it and use it up or should I siphon it out and get new fuel? If I siphon it, problem is I don't know what to do with the old fuel.

Thanks for the help!

I'd throw some dry gas (iso) in it, and if it starts top it off with premium and just ride it.

^^^What he said. Seafoam is some good stuff as well. Your Bike should be fine. I'd be more worried about the battery then the gas.

That battery is probably junk. Keep an eye on it.

As for the gas, meh, I've let my bike sit through a Canadian winter, topped it up, off I went. It was a pretty crappy ride for a while, but it all sorted out.

My bike sits in the garage in the winter. For 2-4 months. I just start it and ride it when the weather breaks. Never had a problem with the fuel

Well, welcome to the US world of E10 10% ethanol gas blends! Ethanol absorbs water and creates a corrosive mix. Carburetors are most susceptible to corrosion and blocked jets from ethanol fuel blends.

Used to be you only had to worry about gum and varnish from stale fuel in pre-ethanol days. My neighbor is happy to take siphoned old gas for his cage, even though it might be dark yellow from age.

I would siphon 4-month old gas and refresh from a station that does high-volume business. Stabilizers are mostly snake oil with cheap isopropanol to disperse the ethanol / water emulsion. Keep it fresh and dry is the best answer.

Id add sea foam then top it off the rest of the way. Its a good habit to store your bike with a fuel stabilizer, especially when using 10% ethanol. I use the marine grade sta-bil, it has twice the corrosion preventer than in regular sta-bil

This. 4 years might be an issue, but 4 months should be fine.
