Default Mufflers

Hi all
As you know I'm new to the HD so thought I'd ask, if I put some after market mufflers on my 2011 883 iron would I need to remap or adjust the mixture on the bike. Also what's the best ones I can put on. Mufflers only don't want full system only doing it for the Harley rumble really.

No, you can slap on new pipes without any problems.

American Custom has slip-on mufflers with swappable baffles so you can alter the sound to your preference. I just ordered a set and price was pretty good. I lime the sound of the ones i heard. Worth checking out. I'll post a review when I get them on my 72.

Khrome Werks is also nice. Many also like Cycle Shack or Screaming Eagle.

Hello old chap, from across the border! Pop over to the Tech section and read the sticky on why we need to tune EFI bikes, then take stock! If your bike is unmodified there are a number of things to consider. The ECU is set up to meet current exhaust emissions and noise regulations. Any modifications will have an adverse affect on the running of your bike, be assured!

The benefit of adding a tuning device is that the factory settings can be adjusted, to give improved air/fuel ratios and ignition timing, also properly compensate for the mods you mention above. Regardless of where you are in Wales, you are reasonably close to Matts Machine Shop, a long established Harley specialist, complete with dyno, should you feel the need.

I just switched my stock pipes to Cycle Shack slip-ons last week. Huge improvement in sound--the bike now sounds like what a Harley "should" sound like (IMO). If you're looking to save a few bucks, like I was, look on eBay (or the classifieds here), I picked up these pipes for about $70 in really good condition.

Once they were installed, it sure seemed like the bike ran a little hotter--I don't have any empirical evidence to support that claim. But what I can tell you, is that it seemed like the engine was kicking out more heat on my legs after I made the exhaust switch. Maybe I was being overly paranoid, or maybe it was the weather on those days that made it seem hotter, but, in my mind it sure felt like the bike was hot.

So I ordered some Xied's from DK Customs ($107 shipped), took less than 5 minutes to install, and now the bike seems to run a bit cooler than before. I don't know enough to tell you whether or not you absolutely need to get a tune done once you switch the pipes, but, from my experience, it sure felt like the bike was running hotter (read: leaner).

Check out the hundreds of posts on the forum about tuning and stage 1 upgrades to get a MUCH more technical review of the topic. There are some really knowledgeable people on here.

You don't need to retune or remap. However, it will accelerate smoother if you install some XiED's. Click HERE for more info.

Regarding slip-on mufflers, there are so many choices...there is no "best". Everyone's ear is different in what pleases them.

Best to listen to a bunch of bikes in person and see which one you like the sound of best.

I personally like the Cycle Shacks and the Rush.

Another option is to spend less and work with what you have. Check out the youtube below.
