Default Sportster exhaust help

So I've had this cherry 2001 Sportster 1200 Custom for about a week now and the mods have already begun.

1. Ditching the 2-up stocker for a Le Pera Silhouette solo seat.

2. Slamming the bike with 11" Progressive 412's.

Now here is my exhaust dilemma...

The bike has this butt ugly (IMHO) Cycle Shack tapered exhaust system.

Part # PHD-116 TA

http://www.cycle-shack.com/cycle/ago...roduct=Muffler

Not only is it hideous looking, the bike also sounds about as loud as a blender.

I was riding with a buddy who has a Dyna with Vance and Hines Long Shots I believe and I wasn't sure my bike was even running.

I want LOUD!!!

So what to do...

Vance and Hines offers a couple of good looking exhausts for 1986-03 Sportsters that have GOT to be louder than this one.

Straight Shots Original and Short Shots Staggered.

Both nice, but also quite costly.

I like the Straight Shots a little better and wouldn't you know it... they are the more expensive of the two.

Anyone running without baffles in their Vance and Hines?

I would also appreciate your opinions on drag pipes.

I like the look (and price) of the straight cut drag pipes from Radii and ironically Cycle Shack.

They don't come with heat shields, but they can be gotten.

Did I mention that I want LOUD?

Give it to me straight.

Do you get what you pay for with exhausts?

Do brand new drag pipes for $79 have to suck?

Opinions please...

Thanks in advance.

If you want "loud" drag pipes will give you the sound you want. But don't buy the cheap china junk out there.

I'm running the Big Radius 2 -2 and I love the sound, loud enough to be heard riding on the highway or around town, but not destroy your ear drums. Bike is in my album if you want to see the actual pipes on my Iron.

Those Samson pipes are more expensive than the V&H!

The V&H Straight Shots Original can be gotten for a little over $400 and like I said, they are NOT offensive looking.

They are in the running...

Which brands of drag pipes are considered to be "quality" and which ones are considered "cheap China junk?"

Thanks again.

My Cycle Shack side slash slip ons are deafening under load without removing the baffles.. Drag pipes are even worse. I don't know what your definition of loud is. Maybe equivalent to an AC/DC concert in 1980 which took my hearing two days to recover? Some people want loud but they wimp out and wear ear plugs. I'm like what's the point Sounding good and being annoying are two different things... Good Luck

Default Santee L.A.F. drag pipes

I'm running the LAF pipes on mine. 2001 custom. Sounds badass and I like the look. Here is the link. http://www.acmparts.net/Santee-SANTE...z=Santee&pos=1 You have to order the ones for the Softail, and they do fit. Ask when you order.

I'm running V&H straight shots on my 07 Custom. Got them at Dennis Kirk 2 years ago for $225. Very pleased with sound and performance.

I like my Bassani Pro Streets. Nice deep rumble but not overly loud at idle.....Jack the throttle & you'll be heard for sure.

Oh, and nice color by the way. Bronze Pearl.....Same as mine.
