Did it just click once, or is it clicking as you hold start button?

Mine would click once and then nothing. It was blowing the fuse. It turned out to be a wire shorting out in the headlight.

This is good information. I never knew there was a difference between a trickle charger and a battery tender.....

You should use a Float charger which is often referred to as a Battery Tender.

cHarley -

Good catch. I'm not trying to put out bad info. I guess I just never knew its real name. The dealership gave me mine when I purchased the bike and in the winter, the Sporty that goes down for maintenance gets the tender.

I went ahead and updated the posting.

Any suggestions on the battery tender brand I should use? Are the ones they use at Auto Zone safe?

Mine did this a lot last season, it ended up being the ground cable connection at the battery terminal. I used copper wire to make a better connection, because cleaning it did not work and it actually began to melt the terminal a bit.

Check fuses as well, as I had one that was blown.

Batteries Plus is one suggestion for a reasonable battery.

Good luck!

Don't know about Auto Zone but my H-D tender does the job. They run about $30 bucks. Hell, CycleWorld puts out pretty good products as well.
