Hella H4 lamp

A sealed beam unit will not give as good a light output as an H4 reflector with a modern or high performance bulb. There are a wide variety of modern high tech bulbs available now and it is well worth investigating them. Some give very high light output that will probably out-shine a normal 80/100. Someone mentioned the Touring forum, where members have already been round this loop, so pop in there to see what bulbs they are using.

I've noticed most of these after market headlamps are 7 inches. I just purchased the 80/100 bulb. Ill see how that does. Wish I had read gbrowns post earlier. But it was only $6 so ill see how it does

Now, about fitment
Here's Sportster headlight assembly. It's for different model, than my, but that gasket I have problem with is there
#11 - is the gasket that supposed to hold lamp in place and prevent spinning
And here is hella lamp
you can see that there are 3 mounting tabs, and they do not match with a gasket
I guess if I mount w/o gasket, it might spin from vibration and I will end up with upside down light
So I guess I need to think and ask around

The one in my original post is of correct diameter.

I PMd blu92in99, who initially suggested that lamp.
He advised to ignore tabs on the lamp not matching gasket and just put lamp on top of it. What do you know - it worked. The lamp seems to be very secure and doesn't move.
Now, although I took pictures, I have a mixed feelings about it. I like low beam pattern way more - it's as advertised - cut on the left and puts more light on the right.
Hella:
Stock:
As for high beam, it looks good - concentrated beam of light.
What I'm not sure about, was the stock light that bad or it's just a picture I took?
I'll try to compare with stock iron lights in one of the future group rides
That's how it looks - I kind of like old-style feel to it
Anyways, I think now I'll get good H4 100/80 bulb. With this pattern I should be able to run it on low beam w/o blinding oncoming traffic
