I am just going off what happen to my bike when my voltage regulator went bad. It would only happen on really hot days. Would shut the bike off and it would do nothing for at least 15 minutes. But hey I am by no means a mechanic, so what do I know.

Well!!!! It happened again.... Was riding and it turned off.. This time however, when I hit the start button, the starter relay clicked like a turn signal and the neutral and oil lights flashed between dim and normal..... Then a few min later it cranked and immediately shut down. The battery tested normal and I replaced the starter relay.. still nothing.... then later in the day, it fired up and ran several minutes until I shut it off like nothing ever happened...
Guess that rules out any fuel issues...

1. Remove both battery cables on all 4 ends
2. Wire brush all 4 ends of battery cables
3. Clean both battery terminals with wire brush
4. Clean positive and negative contact areas with sandpaper
5. Coat all 4 ends of cables with dielectric grease
6. Reassemble all 4 battery cable ends and snug well

You have a mechanical speedo, how did this happen? My speedo cable just attaches to the speedo directly, no wires involved. And, you don't have self cancelling signals like my 1991. Very interesting.
FWIW, I was going to suggest replacing your main circuit breaker (cheap). When I bought my 1991, I got a recall notice that the main breaker could be faulty. I did not have a faulty one, until I got the letter and it failed a week later. It shut off and on, and luckily I got her home.
