Default sporty with 180 rear tire?

Do any of the newer sportys come with a 180 rear tire? I'm looking into modifying my 2000 dyna with 150 to accept a 180 but i need a wider fender. I want to stay with a similiar styled fender as what is on the bike now in my signature. I know a 06-09 dyna fender is wider than my 00 but they are going pretty high on ebay. I keep seeing similiar styled sporty ones on ebay for half as much. i just need info on how wide they are.

The biggest tire that Sportsters come with is a 150. Some have done some modifications to make a larger tire fit. What is the width between your fender struts?

The only Sportster to came from the factory with a 180 rear was the XR1200.

Deleted... did not understand the question... you are looking for a fender solution...not the wheel/tire combo... back to my cave...

This is what was used on the newer sportster by fellow forum members to install a 180

Check out this link. It should answer your questions.

EDIT: Scratch that. I just realized you are looking for a fender wider than stock. Is it Friday yet?

I've found a wheel that'll work for a 180 tire. I plan to do a chain conversion to free up more room. I just need a wider fender that I can modify and then get painted. between my struts is about 7 1/4 inches or so. I plan to make some modifications to squeeze in a fender that is about 8 inches wide.

What kind of mods are you doing to make an 8" fender fit in a 7 1/4" space? The only way I see you can do this is to spread the struts.

I'm not exactly sure yet. It depends what fender i go with. I want to be around 8 inches wide. Some of the newer dynas have a 8 1/2 or wider fender. I've thought about putting a bottle jack between the truts and spreading them. Maybe heating them. I've also thought of grinding the welds and taking the truts off and either welding them back on a little wider or fabbing new truts of some sort. Still planning at this point and hunting for a fender that I like and that will work. Obviously the fender I get will need to be fitting and all new mounting holes drilled, the old holes filled, and then repainted. I plan to use a 02-04 or so v-rod rear wheel. 8x5.5. I'll need to get reducers and new 3/4 inch wheel bearings for it to work.

I have a copy of instructions for widening struts on a sportster when putting on a new wide tire swing arm kit. If you would like I can send you a link to the site.
