Default ran the 48 out of gas just to see...

In town I ran out at 66 miles. I then strapped a gas can to the back and rode the highway until I ran out. I averaged 65mph and made it 100.7 miles.
My bike has Vance and Hines shorties, and a screaming eagle air kit.

I am doing a two 500 mile ride this weekend and now I have a little more confidence.

So what is your average gas mileage? Since I rejetted my carb I've been averaging between 50-55 mpg with occasional trips coming in at close to 60.

I have the 4.5g tank, but I don't have to switch to reserve until I hit around 160 miles or so. When I fill up after that it usually only takes 3.5-3.75g. Never ran it dry though.

I usually get 45-50 mpg running my forty eight 'the way I ride' by myself. Couple weeks ago went on a 200 mile day trip with my aunt, uncle, and mom. Riding the way they ride, I got just under 70 mpg. All I've done is the stage 1 with Vance n Hines short shots. Run ethanol free when I can get it. But that day was only using premium from chevron. I'm leavn in 2 weeks for a 1800 mile 6 day trip. I still plan on carrying a little fuel can for piece of mind

You did not provide what you believe to be your average speed, but the 33 mpg (rounded) on your in-town riding does seem a bit low. I would think that mpg would require a lot of stop and go.

Next time a better idea would be top it off. Ride around and top it off and do the math. Modern internal electric pumps run all the time (excess bleeds off to maintain set pressure at idle or 90mph) The fuel pump passes fuel right thru itself to keep it cool..right thru the one copper/carbon brush no less. Most have a disc commutator pickup. Honestly, you would think it would blow up. Never ever run modern FI automotive stuff out of fuel.
