Default Weird noise, cant tell where its coming from

OK, so Ive got a 2011 48 and its my first bike, about to roll 10k miles, bought it with just over 5200. Only mods to the engine are V&H short shot exhuast.

My question is this: Ive noticed that ocassionally when I give the bike full throttle (say to pass or speed up) without downshifting a gear, the bike makes a weird high pitched kinda of squeaky/tinging pinging noise.

The closest thing that I can relate the noise to would be a high tension wire and when you strum it, it makes that kind of noise.

I dont know where its coming from, and I dont hear it very often. I would say its most notable in either 3rd or 4th gear, maybe even 5th.

Ive tried to reproduce this noise to no avail, it just happens when it feels like it from what I can tell.

Can anyone help?

Could be pinging, you running premium fuel? Best fix is to downshift.

^^^Could be fuel-related (i.e. pinging)^^^

Also, possible exhaust leak @ exhaust flange...have you checked for leaks?

take a look into a powervision or thundermax tuning device. very good investment. what you are hearing is most likely detonation and is caused by an incorrect air fuel mixture. it is not good for your engine when it does this so I would try to avoid it until you can get it fixed.

Will Xied's stop this from happening? I do run 93 octane fuel in my scoot. Sadly its not ethanol free.

^^ after doing some research on this site about "lugging" the engine. It is my belief that you did not read what I posted. I haven't yet "lugged" my motor or started off in a gear higher that what the engine rpms should be.
The noise that I hear occurs while I'm already cruising in 4th at 45mph and accelerate. The bike goes but makes the weird noise which seems to eminate from the left side.

Here is another explanation of the sound I'm referring to. Picture a suspension bridge. Now picture the tension each wire holds supporting it. If one were to snap. That loud slinky wire pinging noise is what I hear. Sounds identical. It goes away if I downshift or let off the throttle.
