Default How do you adjust this shock?

My buddy has a used 1200C that came with these shocks. He said his ride was rough so I took out my spanner wrench to adjust and am a bit puzzled. How do you adjust these? I don't see the normal notches I'd expect. Wasn't sure if those notches were 'faux' or not.

Thanks. I've got the black 412s on my Nightster and they look completely different. Now I see the error in my ways.
