New guy choosing a sportster
Hello! My name is Jon and I'm new to the forum, also new to street bikes. I have been racing dirt bikes my whole life. I am trying to pick between 2 bikes. 1st is a 2000 sportster 1200 with 19000 miles the second is a 2007 883 sportster with 7000 miles the price difference between the two is only 1500. I'm having a hard time choosing and was wondering opinions. I'm 5'8 and 180lbs... Which bike would be best for me any info would be awesome!!
Thanks in advance,
Jon

The biggest difference is power, obviously. I've never ridden an 883 but my 1200 sporty gets it pretty good, even stock. Neither are going to ever be in sport bike territory, but that isn't the point.
In my opinion, if the 883 and 1200 are in comparable in every way (condition, mileage, year) and you can afford to get the 1200, do that. If the 883 is a better deal (newer, lower mileage, ect) then get that.
In the end, get the one that speaks to you; the one that makes you grin the most.

Welcome to the forum, basically you are choosing between 883 EFI and 1200 Carbratour with 7 years less on the road. The 883 can be later upgraded to 1250 through a kit if you felt it is not enough power. I would go with the newer bike with th EFI and less mileage.
But you cant go wrong with either.

$4800 ain't bad for a EFI 883. Plus like the others have said you can always make her a 1250. Look at what rickss69 has done with a '07 883:https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...ghtymouse.html
