Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm not trying to rain on your parade but, don't most stone guards have a gap between the guard and the lens of the light. It seems to me that if a fair size stone hits that when it is up against the lens it isn't really going to protect it that much from cracking or chipping.

I don't think it was done for any lens protection, especially being that it's flexible plastic. It just looks really cool & unique IMO.
