This lady certainly didn't get the memo about Sportsters:
http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/3850025856.html
40k miles on 2005 ROAD KING.
So what's the opposite of a RUB? An outlaw biker? I'm sure the majority of us fall somewhere between the two. Closer to one end or the other.
As far as RUBs ruining the rich Harley-Davidson history and tradition, I think Harley-Davidson has done that. They've positioned themselves as a cult for yuppies who want to rebel. They're like the Church of Scientology of motorcycle manufacturers. They're just as concerned with selling clothing and expensive upgrades as they are with their "motorcycle heritage."
The guys at the dealer try to sell me their $450 tuner every time I go in there. The one that requires a $275 dyno session every time you make a change to your bike. Meanwhile the ****ing service manual I ordered hasn't come in after a week. They're more interested in people who want to pay almost a grand for boutique dyno tuning than someone who wants to wrench on their own bike.
I am 100% opposed to Harley-Davidson apparel, barring maybe the occasional T-Shirt. It just tells me I am looking at a guy who was told, "you can't ride a Harley in a Polo Shirt, you have to buy the uniform so nobody knows what a douche you really are," and they believed it. And they put zero down and got 24.99% APR financing. That what Harley-Davidson wants. Don't blame the RUBs. Blame Harley-Davidson for positioning themselves in this way.

I have had my Sporty since Oct of 2008, had 2 Sportys at the same time from 2010-2011 and never once herd a girl's bike comment, infact everyone tells me how sweet my bike is. I have had a few HD salesmen ask when I was going to trade up to a bigger bike and could not believe I had a Sporty for so long. I love my bike and sure I love the bigger HD's, but see no need to get a bigger bike. I do not tour on my bike, try not to ride 2 up anymore and I'm 5'8" about 155 so not like i'm a huge guy. I would have loved to smoke that RUB with my Sporty.
