Default The evil front brake switch

I recently replaced the front brake switch, cause the old one was trash and i needed to pass inspection, so I bought an aftermarket one, got good reviews on here.

Fired up the Iron to head to DMV, put my sticky reflectors on the bike, checked my lights, good to go, get down there, double check before i hit the lanes, and lights are staying on.... so i pull my lever apart, rig some **** up (took 30 minutes), and go through the lane. It was a 40 minute wait in the sun 80+ degrees...get up there, and its sticking again.

Go back to the parking lot, now i really mcguyver'd it up, took a couple zip ties clippings, electrical taped them up, and put it inside the lever on top the switch. Back in line again for another 40 minutes, this time in the shade!

PASSED!!!
Only spent 2:30 at the DMV!!!

now time to find out why my brand new switch isnt catching the lever when i ease of the brake.

Gotta love motorcycles!!!

I'm having lighting issues getting my 89 K1500 4x4 ready for state inspection. Straight up it's just messing with me now... Anyway your story made me smile. Thanks Bro, ride safe.

I had to replace that front brake switch this winter and it's a job for people with smaller hands than mine - what a PITA! I also used an aftermarket switch and it's been working fine, but man those are tight quarters to have to solder and work in, and then get it all buttoned up!

I just buy replacements on eBay. I'm currently on switch number four. (Apparently they don't like inclement weather too much.)

After a couple times it gets real easy. I can remove and solder in a new one in 30 min now.

my factory switch broke... just the head... i used a TINY machine screw and threaded it in the broken off hole... then i "adjusted" how much the screw head stuck out to catch the brake lever... and BAM brake switch fixed... now with the FLATen'd head of the screw i can take apart the switch housing with out worry of it breaking...

Many have applied this fix, and it seems to be a good one. Of course, I wasn't aware of it before replacing mine, but if it "goes" again, I intend to apply "the screw fix" myself!
