Default Can I adjust my shocks?

Too many questions with my new first harley.

I was thinking I wanted to either slightly lower my forks 1 inch, or raise the back an inch? Can I do this with these shocks? (assume they are stock)

I'm guessing they are on setting 1, and going to a 2 would raise them?? If so, what is the process? Raise the bike and adjust, then lower the bike?

Thank you!

This has been discussed before link below:

going up in numbers mainly stiffens the shock not so much raises it

You cannot adjust the ride height of the shocks. The rebound can be adjusted to accommodate more or less weight of the riders, but not ride height. To raise the rear, you would need to buy longer shocks.

The spring adjuster changes the preload of the spring. Higher is for heavier loads. This is needed in order for the spring to properly support the sprung mass if it is higher than stock. Too little preload and your ride will feel mushy and you'll lack control. Too much and it will feel harsh.

This is different than ride height. That is set by the shock construction as Rich said. The only way to change that is to change shocks or move the mounting locations. Obviously, different length shocks is much preferred.

General rule of thumb..... never put any of your polishing/cleanin rags on the ground floor. They will hold dust and debris no matter how well you shake em out. Congrats on the new whip! Looks mean n purdy!
Ps. dont use dish detergent either. it's a degreaser.

He means "it's not a good practice to put micro-rags on floor" because they'll pick-up particles and scratch surfaces, when used on bike.

setting up a small dish rack or even clothes pins/clips for rags will benefit your work.
oh yeah, and don't mix chrome polish rags with paint polish rags. chrome polish is no bueno on clear and paint

I love the tapered end of those shocks. Are they the 2013 stocks? puuuurdy!

Putting some light adhesion masking tape on the shock adjust and or "padding" the spanner wrench or channel lock pliers will prevent scratching the shocks. A rag can also be rigged unde the spanner as well. Cheers.
