1970* Harley Davidson Ironhead XLCH 1100(?)
Hello, all. Firstly, since I am new to these forums I should introduce myself. My name is Cody, and I'm currently in Alberta, Canada. This is my first Harley Davidson, and it's most obviously got me a bit hyped up.
I had been looking on the local Kijiji(For those of you that don't know, it's a Canadian Craigslist basically), and came across this bike. It's currently in pieces, though it's not becoming apparent it's missing a few. And worst of all, I'm not sure it's entirely original. The engine is mounted, along with the tank and rear fender, though somebody cut the rear fender for some reason, and I have people telling me the tank isn't original.
Ontop of that, I have people saying that the reason I can't find anything on a 1100 Sporty is because only 100~ were ever made, as it was meant to be a racing bike. This further complicates the matter, because I can't for the life of me find any information on this illusive racing bike. It apparently had a springer front end on at one point, but I'm unsure if that was the original. Oh, and the top end has sand it in, because he had the carb and exhausts off, plugged with a crumpled piece of paper, and he probably sand-blasted it. Here's some pictures.
(Also, if anyone could point out how to confirm if it is/isn't a 1974, and if it's really a 1100, that would be awesome. I'm a bit skeptical that I've come across a super-rare bike entirely by chance.)
In this one, I'm showing how the fender is cut, and the wheel is off-center. Though, that's only because the guy who I bought it from didn't put the bushings on as he should have.
Is anyone can shed some light on this project of mine, that would be awesome. If anyone KNOWs of or HAS one of these 'racing bikes', that'd be awesome because then I'll have a source for when I assemble it.

Sounds good, I'll post a thread there as well then.
I really want to get a start on it, but I definitely don't want to put things together wrong and have to re-do it all. I need to get a manual to be sure I'm doing it correctly, but without knowing exactly what it is, that could be a major pain.

An Ironhead will be either 883 (commonly called a 900), or a 1000cc bike unless its had some very custom parts added that I'm not even sure exist.
I'm not aware of any 1100 Ironhead at all. More likely it's a 1000.
You should be able to find a VIN on the case or the frame. The first two places will tell you what it is. My guess is it will be 3A (XL/XLH) or 4A (XLCH). The last two digits will give you year. Hx is a '7x, so H4 would be a 74.

Lots of non-stock and newer parts on it. There's no such thing as an 1100cc Ironhead factory "racing bike". The only 1100cc Sportster that Harley ever made was the first year or two of Evo production...then it became a 1200.
From what I can see from the pics, your front end, front fender, rear fender, tank, handlebars, exhaust, seat, and many other small parts are not right for a '70. If you're wanting to restore it, that matters. If you just want to get it running and ride it, it doesn't matter that much. Google 1970 Sportster and you will find some pics of stock ones to compare yours to. Good luck with your project!
