i would try for a custom to rent. if you are not comfortable on that better look at the larger models.

You get the bike that appeals to you, then mod it to make it yours!
I have to believe there are enough aftermarket mods, & in combination with info & advice from the forum members here, you can make that sporty work for you.

We have an 06 1200 Custom, a 97 883 Hugger and my Dyna. I'm about 5' 11" and 230 pounds. I love the Dyna and the Hugger and don't feel cramped on either of them but I do on the 1200 C. Get what feels right to you or you will end up regretting it.

I have a 2008 1200 custom and I here at 6'3" 265 and ride just fine. Butt gets a little sore after a few hours but what the heck, gel pad fixes that.

Mids look so UNCOMFORTABLE especially when you have people 6"0 and taller. Also when i sat on the wideglide at the dealer before getting my 48, the wideglide felt a little more comfortable, the forward controls were perfect, the 48 forwards are just tad bit shorter than the wide glides in my opinion.

I'm 6'-0" and 215 lbs...'no problems here with the stock bars and seat on my '09 Iron but I do have forwards. I checked out the mids but they brought my knees up too much and I felt real uncomfortable just sitting on the bike.

Lots of guys are larger and have no problems riding Sportsters, at least that's that they say anyway! Regardless, the only way you're going to find out for real if one is too small for you is to go ride one for an extended amount of time. Maybe rent one for a while[?]...you'll figure out soon enough whether or not you need a larger bike to be comfortable with. And if you do find it uncomfortable, first consider the mods listed previously like the different seats, small apes, shocks, etc., and if still not satisfied look on, there are more choices out there for bikes besides the 'Sporty...anyway, best wishes on your decision quest.

=8^)
