Default 1200C rejet help

Just wondering if I can rejet the carb. without removing it. It looks like it can be done by just removing the A/C and fuel tank to access the vacuum side of the carb. Any advice is apprecicated.

I have not done it but have heard others say you can remove the float bowl and change them while on the bike. Oh, they also suggest replacing the screws with allenheads when reassembling.....

Yes you can do it without taking the whole carb out, just the float bowl. For more info, click here.

I rejetted my 1200C many times. I never did get a combonation I liked, but thats beside the point.

I just removed the A/C unit, popped the carb lose from the mount, then removed the bowl to get at the jets. Pretty simple, take your time on your first time and you should not have any trouble. Before I sold my Sporty, I could replace a jet in less than 10 mins.

hope this helps...

cHarley, that link is just a quick reference, you get an idea where the jets are located. Like I mentioned, you can do it by removing the float bowl. If you have to knock the idle mixture plug off, you may have to remove the carb. My bike didn't come with the plug so I can do the reject and idle adjustment while the carb is on the bike.

Exactly, the re-jet isn't a problem with the carb on the bike, but you will most likely want to adjust the air idle mixture screw after you rejet. To do this you'll need to drill out the plug that covers that screw. I don't see how you could possibly do that with the carb on the bike.

Don't be intimidated at taking the carb off the bike, it's really not a big deal.

Here are a couple of links that provide excellent step by step, with pictures for both tuning the carb and rejetting.

Good luck!

I did my 2006 XL1200C with carb and tank on bike. 10-15 minute job. Only thing removed was air cleaner.

You will need to remove the A/C. Removing the tank is not neccessary and that would add a lot of unneccessary work.

You can rejet the carb without removing it. However, you will want to remove the carb the first time you rejet it because of easier access to drill out the plug. It's very difficult to drill out the plug with the carb on the bike. IMO it's not worth the effort considering how easy it is to just remove the carb. If you decide to change jets again at a later date, then you can just leave the carb on the bike to rejet.
