Default Horn

I'm looking for some horn ideas. The stock horn sounds like ****. I like where it mounts up front. I don't really want it mounted on the side of the motor. I'd like a louder horn that will get people's attention while they are texting and driving, fixing their hair and eating a burger. I usually rev the engine to get their attention when they start moving into my lane, but want to add a better horn also. Any ideas or pictures would be appreciated.

If you don't want to move it, there ain't much you can do. Maybe add another horn beside/below it.

No cowbell! I can make a mount and keep it in the same location. I found a Model T ahooooga air horn but it doesn't give dimensions.

With all due respect for those who want a loud horn or believe that "loud pipes save lives", I'm afraid that based my 49 years of riding experience, you are only fooling yourselves. When you blow your horn or rev your engine, you are assuming that the threatening driver is going to react in a predictable and logical manner. Maybe so, but probably not.

I have survived 49 years of riding without a single accident that was not self-imposed because I spend my time anticipating and taking defensive actions instead of trying to get other drivers to act rationally. I may curse them for the irresponsible bastards that they after taking evasive action, but I don't waste crirical time blowing my horn or reving my engine in hopes that things will turn out well.

Just some observations from an old Sporty rider. Take from it what you will, but ride defensively.

If you want to mount it where the original one is you are very limited in your choices. Unfortunately the person I bought my bike from had the one that came with the 1200 removed because he said it would hang up on his police style boots. He had HD do the work and they installed one used for an 883, which is one of the worst/weakest sounding horns there are, where the 883 usually mounts in front between the two front down tubes of the frame.

What I ended up doing is getting one of these:

FIAMM 72112 Freeway Blaster Horn : Amazon.com : Automotive FIAMM 72112 Freeway Blaster Horn : Amazon.com : Automotive

Unfortunately the bell part of it sticks out more that the 883 horn and rubbed badly, against the front fender. No place to move it up and moving it down would only make it worse. I ended cutting off the front of the bell part even with the rest of the horn part (just make sure you don't cut into any of the spiral part or it will sound weaker than the 883 horn). It didn't seem to diminish the loudness of the horn any in the process and now the horn is as loud as most American made cars. You might be able to mount it under the front of the frame but then would risk the chance of it being taken out when you go over a big speed bump or something. I would love to get one of those air horns and mount it on the side of the front down tube (you know, where an add on oil cooler would go) so it still points forward instead of out the side like the stock 1200 horn does. But, for now the one I installed does a good job for me, even though I would still like it louder.

I did exactly same thing. I couldn't steer when braking hard, so now it's on left side tank bolt.

the mini beast on my bike... be sure to get the one with steel mounting. 128 db and its loud !
agree that you still have to ride defensively, but I also think that having a good horn is part of defensive riding.
pretty much plug n play- and it mounts where the stocker sits. nice product that works well.
