SE II without baffles

SE II without baffles
For you forum members who have removed the baffles from their SEII pipes, how much louder will the bike be without baffles? How easy are they to remove? I've seen the bolt on the lower side of the pipes. Do I simply remove the bolts and slide out the baffles?? And finally, does removing the baffles have any effect on the performance of the bike? I have a 2005 XL1200C with a carb.

RE: SE II without baffles
I had SEII on my sporty...i have read many places that they are fine tuned with the baffles.
Taking them out will throw off tuning.
I bought the Big City Thunder baffles, had them installed, MAN did they sound a hell of a lot better, deeper, louder , and little more power in top end (not much)
They are worth the money

RE: SE II without baffles
I have an 03' 1200 I bought with seII's and recently took the baffles out. It is loud and deep. I love it. I did not notice any change in perfomance and have put at least 300 miles without baffles. I just unscrewed two bolts on each muffler and pulled the baffles out. I used wire hanger to make a hook and they both pulled right out. If you don't like it, just put them back in...

Ditto. Two bolts on each hold the baffles in. Just remove those and use a wire clothes hanger to tug them out of there. The sound was great, but it was just a little much for me so I put them back in. It took about 10 minutes to remove them and about 5 to re-install them.

RE: SE II without baffles
Okay now I'm curious. You have stock pipes without baffles and you have aftermarket pipes the same. They have the same dimentions. They are going to sound the same. They don't? Do they have a special metal? Nope. You have a 1-3/4 pipe. It's going to sound the same without baffles reguardless. Shorter will sound different but the end result is the same. I really don't see what the after market pipes are unless you ride with baffles. If you do, that will be a factor in the tone. If your running with opened pipes unless you just want to look cool. Anything will work fine. Same result.

RE: SE II without baffles
I have a 05 1200C with SEII and I took out the baffles and it was a bitch! Broke my little finger and had to make three tools to hook and pull em out. Sounded awesome, but lost a ton of low end, gained about 4 mph top end.
Tried and tried and had two other Harley friends try and put them back in.
I finally got sick up and fed of the loss of low end (wheely type) and took a couple hours and put em back in!
Gotta go in for its 5000 mi service this spring anyway and I wanted to have the baffles in for that.
Havent decided if I can live with the low end loss enough to take em out after my service. Sure liked the sound though.....
