Mechanically challenged = Difference between 883 & 1200 question
What is the difference between buying a sportster from the dealer with the 1200 motor compared to buying an 883 and having it "pumped up" to a 1200?
What is involved in doing it and what are the benifits or negatives with doing this?
Thanks for your help.

You must increase the bore from 3" to 3.5" for 1200cc and 3 and 9/16" for 1250cc, the stroke stays at 3.81"
Read all about it.

The best way to get a 1200 if you are not able to do the work yourself is to buy it as a 1200. If you find a great deal on a used 883 or want a model such as an iron and want to have a 1200 the cheapest route to go is with a 1250 kit from NRHS or Hammer. really all you need is the kit and someway to change your timing and fuel air mixture. depends on what year bike you have. if it is EFI or not. the harley kit is fine and the price is good, but they will kill you on the labor. older models can be bored out and use your same cylinders, but i don't know what years can have this done.
