Default How many miles till the fuel light comes on on a "72"?

I just got a 72 and was curious what you guys are seeing as to when the fuel light comes on in city riding. I am in NYC and my light came on at around 26 miles today. It is brand new and I think the tank was full when I picked it up but I didn't check. I put 1.4 gallons in it. Those 26 miles is all that is on the bike so far. Ha

Anyone?

Congrats on the bike. Who cares. Stop and fill it when the light comes on. You bought a 72 with a peanut tank dude.

As for fuel range, while it's not quite broken in yet, the low fuel light comes on between 50-55 miles, with about another .8 gallons in the tank (meaning, maybe another 30-40 miles of range.) Great for a bar hopper, passable for a commuter... not much for touring, and I'm not sure what will make you stop first, the seat or the gas.

Check out your owners manual & do the math when you re-fill the tank.

Don't rely on your low fuel light, if you do a search you will find that it is extremely unreliable. Zero out your odometer (trip meter) when you refuel and use a little math to figure out how far YOU can go on YOUR bike.

I find that if your riding style is consistent thru the tank (all city, all highway) the light comes on about 2/3 thru the tank.

IMO the fuel light is a POS design. Mine now stays on. Def set your trip odom as others have stated. no matter how hard I push, I'm usually pretty sure 40mi are usable And 50-70 on a light ride is a gamble. I have not noticed any dif w the tank lifted. Apparently the fuel light is a known issue and should be under waranty. cheers

i have a 48 (same tank) with just over 500 miles on it.

The first 1000 miles or so (prior to your 1000 mile service where the breakin fluids are removed) will yield poor MPG's.

Once you get it broken in, you should be able to get 80-100 miles out of a tank. My fuel light goes on at about 40 now.
