Default Some tail light questions

Okay, so I've been going back and forth about this since I bought my bike. I have an 07 custom 883 and I hate the style of the rear fender. I want to give it a nightster/ iron rear fender look. I don't want to buy a nightster/ iron fender though. Instead im just going to cut the one I have. I do my own fabrication work and am mechanically inclined so cutting it won't be a problem.
This will leave me with a problem though, My rear tail light. I saw a kit on HD's website that comes with red turn lenses and a harness that turn your turn signals into signal/ running/ brake lights. I can't wrap my mind around how it works with a single filament bulb though. I'm starting to wonder if it works for my bike. Has anyone done anything like this before?

I've never done it but I believe that the HD lighting "kit" you're referring to is in essence what is used on the factory 2007 year 1200N model [and my '09 Iron as well] to create the all-in-one "turn signal, tail lamp and brake lamp" rear lighting, so it's probably a plug and play procedure. I'd double check into it to be sure though...

I did exactly this on my 08. I actually just got done with my second chop where I cut the struts back. All you need is the kit from Harley called the run/brake/turn module. It came with a harness for under the seat and the red lenses and bulbs. If you delete the center tail light, you just need to rewire the blinkers as all wires run through the center mount tail light. My mechanical skills are average and it wasn't too bad. Let me know if you have any specific questions as you do your chop.

Your fine with the run/turn/stop kit, it works by running reduced voltage to the lights in "run" mode and full 12 volts in brake/signal modes. It's a very easy install.
Here is the thread from when I did the same thing to my Roadster.

You guys are awesome. I'll be chopping the fender as soon as I get that light kit from H-D. Thanks a million.
