Default 2005 sportster pilot jet?

hey everyone...i had to get some new tires on my bike and while i was there the mechanic asked if i ever had any trouble starting the bike when it was cold....i said yeah, it takes forever to warm up and when i finally start to go it kind of hiccups sometimes.....he said if i came back one day i should have the pilot jet changed and that would solve the problem.....

its a pita to get there and i dont wanna leave my bike there for a few days for them to work on it(theyre swamped with work).....is this something i can do myself?...i really dont wanna start fiddling with my carbeurator but i want the bike to run ok and not have any problems.....i dont have much done to it...just slip ons....no upgraded air filter or anything else......i have searched thru alot of threads and read about alot of people rejetting their carb for a stage one upgrade but i culdnt find anything specifically just about the pilot jet......does this jet just control the starting of the bike?....thats what the mechanic made it seem like....thanks for any advice....ryan

You don't need to change any jets... you need to drill the cap off the idle mixture screw, set the mixture properly, and ride the bike.

yes its something you can do yourself... i would recomend a CVP carb kit... and yes make sure you idle mix screw is uncovered... you will need to adjust it!

Talking CV Performance Kit

I just bought my first HD 2 weeks ago. Got it for a killer deal from a girl whose husband made her sell it. It sat for 2 years in a garage with no petcock filter so the carb was full of trash and it idled like death when it wasnt pouring fuel.

I promptly ordered the premium tuner kit from CVP, best investment ive made o far other han forward controls. I will recommend CV to everyone in need. Watch their easy videos and follow he jetting instructions. Takes about an hour tart to finish. I recommend the premium kit since it comes with all new accelerator pump guts, easy thumb mixture screw and easy thumb idle screw.

My sporty growls now and has ht classic HD sound.

Stock pipes and air filter still. Premium kit also comes with larger jet set in case you have aftermarket pipes and filter.

Worth every cent. I start the bike with full choke for 30 secs o so, run at 1/4 choke or about 2 mins then shes goog to go.

Hope this helps, first post here on the forums.
