1999 1200 W/dual spark plugs problems

Is that the 1200 SE upgrade he has on the 1990?
My buddy bought a new 1990 883 and had it upgraded by the stealer to the 1200 SE kit at the time. He had dual plug heads after the upgrade.
I thought the 1990 stock 1200 had single plug heads like the 883.
What brand of ignition are you using? I think he had the SE ignition module as I recall, but I really did not look at it, cause it's behind the triangular metal cover. Probably need more info for others to help.
Do the newer SE 1200 kits come with dual plug heads, or has that feature been discontinued?

Not really sure what you mean by the 2nd and 4th spark. The dual plug heads TMK, like found on the 1200S models, fire the 2 plugs in the same head at the same time.
If you mean that 1 plug in each of the heads isn't firing, I'd look first at the coil.

Also, I'm a doofus, I thought it was a 1990, not a 1999. Going to my corner for a while.

Guys,
Thanks for the responses and sorry for my late response. This is what he is telling me. I don't know anything other then that. It makes sense that both plugs Should fire at the same time.
the coil seems to be what we were thinking too. I will let him know. He may have to bring it to a dealership as he is in Florida and I'm in Minnesota. As far as the 1200 upgrade kit, he bought the bike already at that level.
I will let you guys know more as things develop. Thanks again for the responses thus far.

The 1200S came w/dual plugs, others have modified their heads to run dual plugs, using two coils.
The engine will run fine w/only one plug firing per cylinder - what operating symptoms is your friend experiencing? I'd suggest that you invite your friend to the forum, and have him join the discussion in the thread so we can beat him up in person. :-)
