Default Are V&H Shortshots worth all of the hype?

I am getting a 2013 "72" tomorrow. I have been checking out exhaust for a week or so on here. I do like the look of the short shots but there is a ton of opinions on them. From too loud to too quiet.

Any real negatives about them?

Grats on the new bike
V&H are great pipes and IMO and are worth every penny. The hipe about the short shots is the look, if you like the look of the SS's then by all means. Myself like the look of the 2 into 2, currently have the slipe on's and will be up grading the new look soon.

I have them. My opinion is that it completely depends on what you want them for. When I got my bike, I was just ripping around town and thought it was sweet how loud they were. Now I've been going for longer rides just for fun and the sound wears on you over time - I even have the "quiet" baffles in.

People complain about the power loss, but I honestly haven't found myself noticing that as a problem on a 1200. Sure it could probably have more with a 2-1 pipe, but that's not a big deal for me personally.

Power loss? Must be due to back pressure. As long as these bikes are 65-70hp thats all they really need for everyday riding anyway.
I figure if I dont like them I can just sell them on here!

I do love the look. I know a 2 into 1 is going to be optimal for power but did we really buy these bikes for the power anyway?

How much quieter are they with the quiet baffles in them? I was planning on getting a set and trying with out then add them later.

Don't count on the quiet baffles doing much. They did deepen the tone slightly, but they're still really loud. It's hardly noticeable if they did quiet down at all. Basically they took the obnoxious edge off the sound, but still kept them plenty loud - just got rid of some of the harshness.

Don't get me wrong, I like the pipes - but I'd personally do something different if I had it to do over again. Everyone's got different tastes though.

Nice looking pipes, but a little too loud and you do feel the flat spots in performance down low...where you spend most of your time. I agree many will not notice the difference, but I have on hand and have used many different systems on these bikes so I can easily spot the changes. The ShortShots mimic drag pipes in many ways. Funny how many response's you will get from those that have never laid hands on a set of pipes much less tried them on a bike.

I like mine. I like the look and think Ss's are one of the better looking pipes on the Iron.

I've had the baffles in since day one, so I don't know how loud they are without them. I don't think they are that loud and I think the tone is "just right."

My bike is only used around town and for short rides. I don't notice much, if any, performance issues.

If you the Look and Sound Go for it .. I preferred the V&H Straight Shots on Last Sportster, pretty much the same setup as have on FXR4 ..

They are an over priced, pour performing 1 3/4 drag pipe. Quiet baffles, regular baffles, same bag of crap.
