Default Does this look normal to you?

I went for a ride today. The temp outside was about 80 degrees. I rode for about 45 minutes. This was my temp towards the end. It eventually cooled down to 230 on the freeway. I upgraded my 883 to a 1250. I'm just wondering I this is hot or not. If so, is it dangerously hot or just running a little warmer than usual. This reading is from my gaugeface app on my Iphone.

I know here in arizona we have a lot of over heating problems with bikes that have been bored out over orig specs,One would think the 1250 cooling fins on the new cylinders would be larger to accommodate the added heat from the larger displacement.

Well I don't know if this is a problem or not. My gauge may be wrong. 250 degrees may not even be hot. I don't know. That's what I'm trying to find out.

I'm new. So take that for whats it worth. But i usually operate between 150 and 200. 200 on really hot days. If you live in a really hot hot hot area, maybe that will be your normal temp. My 200F day was when it was about 88F outside.

I'd get a dipstick with a gauge on it to make sure that's not your oil temp. That is a high temp for your oil bag but I doubt that's where the temp is coming from. How hot was it outside when you took that temp?

The dipstick gauge is $60 MSRP: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...-10-6302305--1. If it shows 150-200 then you're fine. You might get a reading of 180 on an 80 degree day depending on how long you ride. I have the gauge and I find it very useful. Sometimes an old fashion needle trumps new fangled technology.

BTW, if I'm reading that gauge right, you're lugging the engine pretty badly if you're riding at only 2k going 27 MPH. I'd drop it down to 2nd if that was the case.

This question can't be answered without knowing what temperature is being measured. Are you reading head/cylinder temperature or oil temp?

If you haven't ridden ~2,000+ miles since the 1250 upgrade, the motor will be running hotter than normal during the break-in process.

I'm not sure where its taking that temp from. The gaugeface plugs into a port cable near the battery. That's one problem. The bike is a 2013. I had 1,000 on it before I upgraded it. It's only been 350 miles since then. This is the temperature I get every time I go for a ride though. It's always between 225-240. Even on days when it was 60 outside it still ran around 230. I've got a professional temp probe that I use for air conditioning. I'm going to take it on a ride and then shove that probe down in the oil and see what kind of reading it gives me.

Is the bike fuel injected or carb? Was it remapped (or the carb changed) for the big bore kit? You might be running very lean which would make the bike run hotter.

My head temp sensor reads 320-340F on the PowerVision when on long rides, my oil temp is way less than that. I'm only about 1000mi into the new engine components. I would expect those temps to come down a bit, but not too much since they're air cooled engines. You have to remember, the temp sensor is also on the rear head which runs hotter by nature of placement.

well 248 is cool for head temp and hot for oil. where you plug in i'm sure that must be head temp as i don't believe there is a heat censor in oil system.
