What size shocks should I get?

What size shocks should I get?
I've decided to upgrade my suspension along with a 1250 conversion but am a bit confused. I notice that a lot of people on the forum go with longer springs than what comes from factory. I don't want to raise the height of my bike. I am looking to improve my ride quality and overall handling.
What advantage is there to longer springs?
Will anything else be affected if I do go with longer shocks?
Like my belt tension for example.
Should I go with Progressive 444's?
Are Progressive rate fork springs and heavier fork oil enough of an improvement over the factory set up or should I install Ricor Intimidators also?
I'm not a racer but I would love to have better handling and braking control.
I'm 6'2 and weigh about 230 lbs. Does my height and weight make a difference in selecting shocks?
Please let me know what suspension upgrades have worked for you.

Stock Sporty suspension has a number of problems. The rear shocks are poor quality, have lousy damping and also tend to sag too much. The same comments apply to the forks. Too many Harley riders equate longer shocks to better ride, but that isn't the case. Better ride can only come from better damping. To get that you need to spend more money. In other words avoid cheap shocks if you don't have a cheap bum!
If you are serious about wanting a good quality ride, contact HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal, Howard there will custom-build a set of shocks for YOU at an attractive price!
For the front end, use single rate springs matched to your weight from Race Tech and set the sag correct. That way you will get a far improved ride under your seat and improved ride up front, with more suspension travel than at present. Howard can supply upside-down forks, if you want the ultimate ride!

From what Iv read the 444's are not much better than the 412's. Save the money. Progressive 412's and front fork springs will change the ride and feel of the bike. You will be satisfied. Is it the best upgrade? No. But anything is better than stock. If you want the best get the 470's or air shocks. Not worth it IMO
