Just as well that tree is there. If you have ever watched MotoGP racing, you might notice you are not quite the same build as those racers! As the others have suggested, a seat that raises you a couple of inches should improve the angle of your hips and also your knees, so you are not so cramped.
Having ridden many miles on sporty bikes (I currently have a Buell Firebolt) the lean-forward riding position has some subtle differences over the more upright way. The seat you are sitting on is made for sitting upright, but when leaning more forward, your weight is transferred to the underside of your thighs.
That is actually a better riding position than upright, as your weight and road shocks are not carried straight into your spine. However it also means that the seat needs to be shaped for that riding position, flatter and not deeply curved, as many Harley seats are.
