I've got an '07 883 Custom, bone stock (irony) with about 16,000 on the clock, 4K of which I've put on, in Wyoming, since October. Nobody gives you static for it being a lady's bike when you're passing them in their cage on a January evening when it's about 5 degrees out.

No one has yet mentioned the gas mileage benefit of the 883 vs. 1200 (I think...I did read the whole thread). There are valid reasons for owning the 883. It's the same with V6 and V8 Mustangs. The V6 sells plenty.

Anyone who perpetuates this very old argument (i.e. Sporty = girl's bike) is trying to compensate for other, ahem, shortcomings.

I just got rid of my 883C last year. Wish I didn't have to, but I needed a bigger bike.
I rode that thing like a dirt bike and did a few 1000+ mile trips with the thing. I loved it. The only thing is being over 6'1" and above 240lbs it's tough to stay comfortable on that thing. Now I'm on a Dyna to keep myself comfortable.

Another 883 here, used for long trips. When my son and I were at the H-D plant in York, PA plant for the tour people were amazed they were looking at an 883 with a CA license plate on it.

Loaded 883 with my kid photo was taken in Kent, Ohio.

I'm male and ride an '11 iron. I've ridden a few larger Harleys (road king, fat boy) and really disliked the feeling of the bikes. When I first saw an iron, I instantly wanted one...a feeling I have not gotten from any other harley model. I don't care if people think it's a girls bike. I've spent the last 16 years as an infantryman, the last thing I need is displacement to validate my manliness.

I love the iron 883. It's simple and to the point. I ride it every day it's not pouring out (I've put about 3k in two months). I'm not worried it gets dirty, I don't spend hours polishing the chrome. I've spent 16+ hours on it in a single day. For me, the bike is all about the enjoyment of the open road.

I'm the same boat. I really like the night trains but they aren't made anymore. Only two bikes out I like are the iron and the breakout but I'm not spending 20k on a bike so once I sell my car it's a 2013 iron for me.
