Default Buying a Harley this week

I'm taking a look at the Harley below this afternoon or tomorrow. I currently ride a Kawasaki VN750 Vulcan. The KBB value of the bike, retail, is $5030.

I don't want to low ball the guy but any thoughts on what a "good deal" would be? Its a 2005 with 5000 miles. Thanks for any thoughts.

NADA is a good friend of mine - says $4565.00
It just depends on how bad you want the bike.
I bought an 05 1200R two years ago from a dealer in Dallas - paid $5000 out the door.

I forgot to add a little wrinkle to the equation. I could also purchase the Harley below:

I've already set expectations on what figure I'm looking at for that bike, I wasn't going to pay $6500. I stated that I'd want to look at $5700 for it.

The only concern really is that the bike is stock. What I'm wondering is, is fuel injection highly favored over the carbureted bikes? If not, then I like the look of the 2005 [Harley in my original post] a lot more.

Yeah I also was thinking you can do better on his price. Bike looks good though. I would try to get it down lower than $5000. Good luck and happy riding

Thanks guys, I was toying with the idea of asking to grab it for $4700 or $4800. I don't want to tread in the "low ball" area too much.

Black Book Powersports is only a guide, but he is asking above retail. A private sale should be less. If you have the hots for it offer 5k.
Year: 2005 Make: Harley-Davidson Model: XL1200R Spt 1200 Roadster Model Type: Cruiser Displacement: 1200 Cylinders: 2

I bought my 06 sporty last spring w/ 2.2K miles on the clock and paid $5800 but did include the detachable passenger backrest. This is the last year with the carb. Personally I'd go with the FI sporty if I was you. Less maintenance and fuel controllers are easier then re jetting if adding performance mods. I also own a Vulcan FI 1500 and love the easier starting.

Just a quick update, I agreed to a price of $4700. The gas tank had a dent and the rear fender had a small nick. Other than that it has forward controls, V&H straight shot pipes and nice Harley grips.

This is going to be a fun weekend ladies and gents!

Why not put the 5K down on a Harley you really want? Will you buy this with the intention of getting a bigger/tourer later? Sportster are great bike's, I had one I bought new for five years and loved it. But I ended up getting a Heritage for the long haul riding two up. Just some thoughts to consider.
