Question What is the "Break In" period on a NEW 2013 Iron 883?

How many miles do I have to putter around before I can really rip on the throttle? I have a New 2013 Iron 883.

depends on what your trying to do to it. I consider break in, when you first go for your very 1st time service maintenance.

I, personally, would follow the owners manual. With the exception that I would change the oil and filter at 500 miles and then do the 1000 mile service as recommended. It can't hurt and if you use dino oil at 500 miles, it's cheap insurance. Then at the 1000 mile service you can choose if you want to go with synthetic. But that's another thread topic.

GM80, puttering around is as bad or worse for it than riding it , "briskly" would be, when climbing hills, downshift to fourth and let it run free and easy, that kind of thing.

I have to ask, didn't the dealer go over the new bike break in instructions when you picked up the new bike? That is almost negligent if they didn't.

have to give your bike and engine time to heat up and expand/cool down for the bolts to do the same. If your dragging the bike like your at the track every time you ride then most likely something will break before 3k on the odo.

They gave me the brief on it but was told to "take it easy" until after the 1000 service. Maybe I took it too literally lol
