Default Need help chopping rear fender

I have a 2013 sportster. I'm pretty confident that I can chop the fender myself. The problem is the struts that stick out about a foot that he taillights attach to. I have two questions:

1. How can I chop the struts without it looking awful.
2. Where to relocate the turn signals to when I do chop the struts.

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about for reference:

Cutting the struts is easy to do...just make certain that is what you really want because there is no going back (easily anyway) and it will likely detract buyers in the future. A hand grinder and some file work will round/smooth sharp edges. Turn signals are the easy part. I like the way the back of the bike looks right now personally.

That's what I want. Perfect! It's looks like you moved the turn signals back to second hole on the struts(?) if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to see a close up of the end of those struts to see how you did it. Did you put some sort if cap there, just paint the ends, or something else. This is all I needed. Thanks a lot.

i cut mine off right in front of the mount hole aft of the seat. That's where I mounted my turn signals also. Just realize if you decide to go to a wider rear tire, you'll need to grind down the inner stub as it will put a bolt head right on the sidewall of the tire. I can shoot you a couple pics. My sig pic should give you an idea of the location, but I'll get you a pic from the rear of the scoot so you can get a better idea.

Thank you very much. I'm excited to see what you did. I think I just found a project for this weekend! That's so awesome. I ask a favor and in a few hours I've got all the answers I needed. I love this forum.

That looks perfect. Awesome. Now I'm not so nervous to just chop it off. I imagine you just tuck the excess slack in the turn signal wires somewhere under the seat?
