Default '00 1200C Performance Options

Hi guys. I've owned this bike for about 3 years and honestly I really haven't done anything to it other than change the seat since I bought it. I've just enjoyed the ride. I've got an itch to have a little better performance bike and though I'd look into some performance options on this bike. I'm more than willing to search but I honestly don't know what to search for. What are some options that I have? I mainly ride around town, not a lot of long trips and have thought about selling my bike and getting the new roadster as I hear they have more HP/Torque and generally have better performance. What are some options that I could research?

I haven't even drilled the baffles out on this bike yet [sm=smiley13.gif]

edit: Would I be better off to sell and go ahead and get a roadster then modify it to make it a little more "zippy" ?

The easiest thing is to change the pipes, get a high flow air filter then rejet the carb. You'd be surprised at the zip it adds to the bike. If it were me, knowing that you don't take long trips on the bike, I would give that a shot and keep the bike rather than trading. Even if you trade, you will still probably want to change the pipes and breather.

I second the pipes/air cleaner. It will be a noticeable difference and it's cheap/easy.

Other options to give it more zip are different heads and cams. That's the main changes they made to the new sportsters to give them more power.

As for buying a new sportster for more performance; you're better off modifying yours. Yes, the new sporster engines are more powerful, but the new bikes are much heavier. That means they have similar if not the same performance as the old ones.

Besides the new 06 sportsters use helical gears for the tranny. I prefer the old straight cut gears.

Thanks for the info guys. I believe the pipes have been changed by the PO. I've got Screaming Eagle pipes (dont' know what model or anything) so I don't think i'd have to change those. I'd just have to drill them out and then change the air filter and rejet the carb.

One last question. I keep seeing Stage 1, Stage2 and Stage 3 around here. Is that what this site is talking about? http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/index.html ?
