Default Dunlop k591 Tires

I have a 05 883c and going to be putting new tires on this year. I'm getting a Dunlop K591 150/80 B16 Tire for free from a friend and wondering if this is an upgrade and what type of improvement or technology this tire has? (used to use michelin tires on my sport bike and their website had alot of info on the tires and what each model had and their uses, dunlop doesnt have a very descriptive website or info)

Now the size is the same but I know this is not an O.E replacement tire for my bike, I believe the Dunlop 401's are the factory/stock tires.

From what I've read the sizing is a little different;
K591 150/80 B16 recommended rim width 3.50" overall diameter 25.25" overall width 6.25
D401 150/80 b16 recommended rim width 3.00" overall diameter 25.45" overall width 6.15
I know are tires do vary in actually dimensions, is this something i need to worry about? Will these K591 work and will the be an improvement over the factory/stock tires?

If this K591 Rear tire works and fits, I'll be purchasing a front tire also.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.
Dave

Don't know nuth'in bout any of that just be sure the tire is soft. If it's old and brittle it isn't worth putting it on the wheel.

The k591 is an awesome performance tire. The only bad thing I can say about it, it wears fast. There are only a few other tires out there in that size range that are that sticky. I think you'll love it. It will out grip Avon, metzler, tires any day of the week. It's been around for years too. Many 80s muscle bikes wore them

No. Check once fitted that you have clearance between tyre and belt guard. A 150/80 is generally fine on a 3" rim and I have used them successfully on my Glide.

It is not essential that both tyres are the same brand and model, but if you are changing both of them you might as well keep them the same. In half a million miles I have only on a few occasions found that mis-matched tyres don't seem to work together.

I wouldn't put that K591 on a 3.00 rim.

Always check the manufacturer's recommendations for fit. Avon for example recommend a 3.5" rim for their 150/80, but also include alternative sizes from 3" to 4.25". I have used Venoms on stock Harley 3" rims and been very happy, with no problems.
