Default 2006 fuel light stays off

Hey guys. I've got a 2006 1200c that the low fuel light doesn't come on when its out. I've ran out of gas twice now because of this. Wanted to see if there's a way to test the fuel light on the gauge or if anyone has a trick to get it to come on so I know the light works and its not burned out. Any suggestion would be great. Thanks in advance.

I think the low fuel light began with fuel injection on '07 XLs.

Yeah, the 2006 is a carburetor bike not a fuel injector bike. It does not utilize a "low fuel" light. Just make sure you have your fuel petcock set to normal operation and when you run out of fuel, switch it over to the "reserve" position and you have about a gallon and a half of fuel left to get you to a gas station.

Reset the trip meter every time you gas up - and read it like a gas gauge. Pretend like 80 miles is empty and refuel.

No, with a correctly adjusted petcock, the reserve fuel quantity is approx. 1/2 gallon. Usually .5 - .7 gallons

The OP has a "C" model bike which has a 4.5 gal. tank. 150 miles would be more like it.

There is a light dirctly below the center of the needle on the speedo thats a gas pump.Dose that not mean low fuel? I havent seen it on . Thought maybe defective bulb or something. Is it just there for other models and they happen to use the same one to cut cost?

The same speedo was/is used on other model bikes. The low fuel light is only used/applicable on EFI bikes. You bike has a carb, not EFI.

I have a 2006 XLC as well. There is no low fuel light. As others have said, it is a carb bike, not EFI. I reset my trip A odometer when I get gas. at 150, I better get gas.
