Default replacing handlebars

Getting ready to replace my handlebars on my 2000 XL. Is there a connector for the wiring that runs through the bars that I don't see or do I just simply cut and splice the wires? The service manuel does not say anything about this that I can find.

You can buy a wiring kit for the additional wires, or you can simply cut & splice. Depends on what you need to do, remove wire or add wire.

If your bars are in stock condition, there is not a connector inside the bars. There is a plug/connector under the tank and then a connection inside the housings (blinkers/horn/ignition/etc). When I changed my bars I bought a plug/play extension piece and didn't have to splice any wires. However, I don't think that will work if you plan on trying to run the wires internally on your new bars because the plug won't fit through the bars- you'll have to run bare wires and splice them.

From my own experience, solder the wires. it takes more time but when you have a connection come loose, you will wish you would of done this.

Theres kits you can buy(burly is one) that have everything you need. They say just plug in the wires,BUT solder them like said above. Theres also DIY videos on the tube that are help full.
