I hope this helps. I'm not a complete moron. I do know something about brakes. In humid conditions, a thin coat of rust forms on the rotors. That will cause a squeal. If the rotors have any grooves at all, it will be like a old record player. The pads act as the needle and the rotor as the record. Another issue is glazing. If a rotor looks like a mirror, chances are you use the fronts much heavier than you should. The problem is that it glazes the rotors and hardens the pads. There are 2 types of brake pads these days. Semi metallic and ceramic. Both do about the same job, but semi metallic tend to squeak. Ceramic tend to dissapate heat better. Think of the space shuttle. The heat sheilds are ceramic. They don't squeak, just do their job more efficiantly.

 

The brake pads can play the Hokey-Pokey for all I care, just as long as they stop me before I hit anyone's bumper.

I've had the problem too, it never bothered me, but I'm interested in a fix in case it happens again.

 

Harley pads seem to work pretty well. The only problems I had with noise is under several heavy braking situations at the same time. Compared to my car, the sportie doesn't stop very well. I could be that I'm going too fast but I don't know. I can go 140 in my sports car and stop quicker than my sportie. I guess it's open for discussion.

 

Ifmy brakepads do play the Hokey-Pokey is that bad?

 

2 wheels, single disc up front, 21" wheel w/ skinny tire, 2 small contact patches, no abs... not the recipie for quick stops.

I'm no fan of FI and sensors, but I sure wouldn't mind having abs.

Found the problem.The front pads were glazed.I used some 180 grit sand paper on the pads and roter.No more noise and the brakes grip alot better.

Sandpaper?Itseems logical... but then why not just put new pads? Kant cost that much... at least with cars they dont.. [:-]
