Would anyone happen to know if this part will fit the Seventy-Two tank? I have been given multiple different answers from dealers and was thinking the people of this forum may no better.

Yes it fits. The HD parts page says it fits ALL '92 and later XL's. Here's the link:

I've heard they tend to spin around due to the vibrations. So, if you're **** about how it sits while riding...you might want to think about another cap.

 

Yeah I think it would probably be obnoxious if it spun around while riding.
