Default CV jet needle adjustment

Help! Cannot find any info on how to determine which grove to install the clip on the CV needle jet on my 2000 Sporty. Bike seems to be running a little lean, plugs are ash white, takes too long to warm up. Have went to next size larger jets, low and main which stopped the "farting" through the carb". Low speed jet is three turns out. Cold weather. I moved the Clip one grove (can't remember which way) when I was in it. Thanks for any help.

Moving the clip down enriches the mixture.
What size jets are installed now?
Is your exhaust and A/C stock?

Thank you, I think I went up, should have went down, will have to check.

I cannot remember what size jets but I did go up one size.

2 1/4 Sampson exhaust (with lolly pops to get rid of flat spot about 3400 rpm). Mike Reed A/C conversion.

While there is no such thing as "one size fits all" when it comes to jet sizing, for 90+% of all 1200 Sporties with a similar exhaust and A/C setup, a #45 pilot and #180 main is the ticket and the best place to start.
