I don't get why people buy a Sportster (A light agile cruiser made for more aggresive riding style) and then load it down with bags, windshields, forward controlsetc. Please understand, I am not bashing anyones taste or ride ....but why not buy a big twin at that point!
It's been a long winter and I am ready to ride!!!!!

2 inches of now, then sleet all day, then 1 inch of snow.
Result - 5 inches of stuff that resembles styrofoam.
Gave the snow thrower a run for its money!!!!

Glad to see this finally settled down! I did not mean to start a controversy, and after thinking about it I can see how the bike would be a good means of everyday commuting. My original asumption was that maybe a TC would be a better choice to load up with gear. However, I never took into account the cost factor or peoples resources to buy a larger machine. I'm glad to see that it stayed somewhat cival and the mods didn't have to step in!!!!

RE: I don't get it!!
I use to ride a 1997 Sportster 883 and it was a fine bike. I even rode it cross country loaded with saddlebags and even a military bag on the back portion of the seat. The windshield was not that big in perspective to the bike either. In town, I would usually leave everything off and go back to the solo seat.
The newer Sportsters have more going for them now since they are rubber mounted and EFI. I personally believe Harley should come up with a Sportster like the FXDS-CONV where it had a detachable windshield and detachable bags. Likewise, a Dyna styled after the FXRT that was meant for sport-touring would be a nice addition. If people would buy them....I have no idea....but that is another story.
Just get what you want or make what you want...or tell Harley to make it again if you so desire.
