is my stater soleniod bad?
yesterday went to start my bike and it went completely dark. no lights anywhere nor would it crank. I let it cooldown and the lights came back on. as I tried to start it, I heard the starter solenoid produce a loud click and dark it went again. I have troulbleshot the ignition switch (good), main CB (good) not until I disconnected the green wire that goes to the starter relay the lights came back on. I believe this thing (the relay) is grounded.
Is it worth rebuilding it or buying a new relay?
can the relay be rebuilt without removing the starter?
What do I need to rebuilt the starter while I have it out?
Thanks a million

Yet another one with a loose neg. battery connection. It amazes me how many times this happens. If your lucky all you will have to do is re tighten it. You should at least check the surfaces of the connectors on that loose side. A lot of times it has been loose for some time and will have been arcing for awhile. When that happens it will build up a carbon coating on the connectors that either has to be chipped or ground/filed off. Then make sure you tighten it up as tight as you can without tightening up so much that it strips out the soft lead threads of the battery terminal. After tightening coat them with dielectric grease. After that check tightness again two times about six months apart. If it is still tight after that it should be OK until such time that the battery reaches its expected life span and dies of natural causes (on average about 5 years).
