On my new (2013) 1200c I'm getting terrible milaege too,
No oil or other leaks, everythings tight, the bike sounds and rides great.

Stage one, K&N + screaming eagle intake, cobra exhausts, super tuner. 95 octane.

First tank I got 25 mpg, 2nd 28.
3rd about 35, 4th 30.

Mixed riding, about 1/4 town, 3/4 highway.
Riding sort of normal. Not slow, not revving it either.

On ANY other bike I ever had, including 1200 beemers, Duc 916's and other power bikes I never got below 40/45 mpg. No matter how I ride. Om my ktm 690 enduro r (2012 model) I'm averaging at 55 mpg, with a lot of offroading.

I'm shocked that my Sportster uses this much fuel. Like ridiculous!
I sure hope this will improve when the bike gets broken in.
As soon as the weather allows (it started snowing and freezing again!) I'm going back to the dealer to have it checked out...

Yesh, get ye back to thee dealer because sumpthin's wrong, as cold starting problems [mine starts fine at 30ºF temp] and dark smoke no matter what the color aren't good indications at all, 'specially on a new bike. Sounds like at the very least a crappy or the wrong MAP to me...

Thing is I have been back to the service center a few times at my dealer already, they said whoever told me I should be getting 100+ miles per tank is full of ****.(It was one of their salesmen har har) They have taken the whole tank assembly apart and even run up 50 miles on my bike test driving it and said its operating normally.

I am just going to keep riding and hoping my bike starts getting better mpg once I get more miles put on it. The service manager at the service department told me he "will take care of me when I reach the 1000 mile service point" for all my troubles.

I figure its just how I am riding it too, since I live on an army base and 75% of the time the fastest I can go is 35mph with stop and go a lot.

I dunno man, 'still sounds fishie to me...in any event I surely hope you get to the bottom of it all. And an Army base? My oldest daughter SSG JessicaBone did 8 years as an MP K9, and is currently in Ft. Polk La. with her hubby [also US Army MP K9], their two children, and Beny, her retired explosives dog.

Thanks for your service!

Stock 06 carbed 883R and I get between 47-55 mpg depending on how I drive. Wouldn't own a bike that got less that 45mpg highway. That's why I love the 883 motor. Frugal on fuel big on fun.
